Description
How It Works:
A pregnancy test kit detects the presence of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in urine. This hormone is produced by the placenta shortly after fertilization. The test strip contains special chemicals that react with hCG, displaying a positive or negative result within minutes.
How to Use a Pregnancy Test Kit:
- Read the Instructions – Every brand may have slightly different directions, so always check the leaflet inside the package.
- Collect Urine Sample (if required) – Some tests require you to collect urine in a clean container, while others allow direct urination on the test strip.
- Dip or Place the Strip –
- If using a midstream test, hold the strip under your urine stream for a few seconds.
- If using a dip test, immerse the strip in the collected urine for 5–10 seconds.
- Wait for the Results – Place the test on a flat surface and wait for the time mentioned in the instructions (usually 3–5 minutes).
- Check the Results:
- Two Lines (||) or a Plus Sign (+) – Indicates a positive result (pregnant).
- One Line (|) or a Minus Sign (-) – Indicates a negative result (not pregnant).
- No Lines or an Invalid Display – The test may be faulty or not used correctly. Retest with a new kit.
Additional Tips:
- Use first-morning urine for the most accurate results, as hCG levels are highest at that time.
- If the test is negative but your period is still delayed, test again after a few days.
- For confirmation, consult a doctor for a blood test.
